TRAFALGAR PIGEONS

Bernard Rayner, the licensed pigeon feed seller who was 'culled' by Ken Livingstone after the Mean Mayor removed his licence overnight, has got it back - temporarily.

But Bernie¹s legal battle continues. Please contact the Mayor (see below) and register your support for Bernie, whose family have held the feed licence for decades.

Meanwhile, Blood Red Ken, the Pigeon Killer, declared at a recent public meeting, 'pigeons are rats with wings but minus the intelligence'.

Livingstone is wrong, as well as arrogant. Pigeons are both intelligent and resourceful, as evidenced by their ability to flourish (about the only species that can) amongst teeming humanity - a good proportion of which is venomously hostile. Intelligence shouldn't, in any case, be the measure by which we judge the worth of an individual (human or non-human) and the amount of justice we accord him or her.

Livingstone's old GLC ally, Tony Banks MP, takes an altogether more civilised view of what he calls the 'gentle London pigeon'. He describes them as 'sociable and intelligent creatures' who in Trafalgar Square 'have become accustomed to a food source provided by humans'.

Banks plans to table a parliamentary motion in support of the Square¹s winged residents. Register your feelings directly with the Mayor - email mayor@london.gov.uk.
