CAMBRIDGE PRIMATE CENTRE
Planning permission refused

The following statement is issued today by Animal Aid:

Animal Aid is delighted that South Cambridgeshire District Council has refused planning permission for Cambridge University's proposed new primate research centre.

The decision is a well-deserved slap in the face for Lord Sainsbury, who tried to influence the Council to override Girton's Green Belt designation. His claim that brain research on monkeys is in the national interest is utter nonsense. The money and effort should be spent on high quality human-based research, rather than on scientifically bogus and morally grotesque monkey experiments.

Congratulations and thanks to everyone who helped to achieve this victory - thousands of monkeys will be spared a fate worse than death, thanks to you!
